Market

It’s been a while since I posted anything here. I have been so busy! Also I can’t seem to find where I stored my photos. I just found them and here’s a post about Coffee Powder.

Too lazy to go out to have coffee at Ipoh Old Town or Rengit Coffee. Or you think they are becoming too expensive, why not brew some coffee at home? You might ask, where can you get coffee powder that you know is freshly grounded and mix? There are a few places in BP that sells them. But I am introducing this little stall holder who peddles his coffee from a cart at the Pasar Besar.

This stall owner (who do not really want to show his face) grew up in the same kampung as my mum. Mum occasionally buys coffee powder from him and will make coffee ‘Vietnam style’, using a cute little coffee plunger/maker she bought from Vietnam. (this website has a photo of how the plunger looks)

I am not a coffee expert, but the man will show you the unprocessed coffee seeds.
Haha… no point showing it to me, because I don’t understand. For those who can tell, this is for you.

He grinds the coffee with this machine. It roars loudly and out comes fragrant coffee powder.
Ask him how you like your coffee and he can mix it for you!

The tins where all the coffee beans and powder are stored.
The price is reasonable too, 100gm of white coffee is RM2.10
Black coffee is Rm1.60
(These photos were taken during CNY, so I think the prices remains the same).

Now, go take a break and have some coffee!

It’s been a while since I posted something. Hope that all are doing well.

This is just before 9 AM on 24 Jan 2009. Other than the “Pasar Besar” and the market along Jalan Mohd Akil, many residents in BP visit Kampung Merdeka to buy their meat, seafood and vegetables.

This corner provision shop is also a mini fish market. You can see the containers of fish that’s being cut up.
Also, the chicken and pork sellers.

Kampung Merdeka

Something that you can’t miss in Kampung Merdeka is the huge building, the new Police District Headquarters.

Others have breakfast at the few shops around here, others buy their vegetables.

Kampung Merdeka

You can’t miss the “Carrot Cake” sellers. The Chai Tow Kueh being fried smells so so good.

Wishing all who celebrates the Lunar New Year a very Blessed New Year.

Other than the Pasar Besar, there’s another Pasar in town. The smaller one is called Hiap Seng Market. It is along Jalan Mohd Akil.

Here are two photos of it.

Anyone can translate the Jawi on the top right? Does it translate to Hiap Seng Market or is it something else? Anyone has some history of this market? Let us know.

Maybe the next time, I shall go ask the vendors inside. It would be interesting to find out.

Sometimes after a while, you forgot that the name exist. I was on the express bus the other day, and someone on the bus said, “OK see you in a while, I have reached pesta liao”.

Like ‘tada’, I have not used Pesta for some time. I have switch to calling it the Big Mosque area.

Some pictures of Pesta.

Only come to this side of town on Saturdays for Pasar Malam. haha…

The Pasar Besar (Main Market) area still remains a favourite for many people in Batu Pahat to get their groceries and all the whatevers.

Fruits from Pasar

Some will buy from the Pasar Besar, others from the Pasar Pagi/Melayu.
There’s this fruit stall that our family buys fruits from.

Let me put more colour to today’s post by showing the colours of the various fruits. This pictures are a few months old by the way, pulled out from archive.
