Business in BP

It’s been a while since I posted anything here. I have been so busy! Also I can’t seem to find where I stored my photos. I just found them and here’s a post about Coffee Powder.

Too lazy to go out to have coffee at Ipoh Old Town or Rengit Coffee. Or you think they are becoming too expensive, why not brew some coffee at home? You might ask, where can you get coffee powder that you know is freshly grounded and mix? There are a few places in BP that sells them. But I am introducing this little stall holder who peddles his coffee from a cart at the Pasar Besar.

This stall owner (who do not really want to show his face) grew up in the same kampung as my mum. Mum occasionally buys coffee powder from him and will make coffee ‘Vietnam style’, using a cute little coffee plunger/maker she bought from Vietnam. (this website has a photo of how the plunger looks)

I am not a coffee expert, but the man will show you the unprocessed coffee seeds.
Haha… no point showing it to me, because I don’t understand. For those who can tell, this is for you.

He grinds the coffee with this machine. It roars loudly and out comes fragrant coffee powder.
Ask him how you like your coffee and he can mix it for you!

The price is reasonable too, 100gm of white coffee is RM2.10
Black coffee is Rm1.60
(These photos were taken during CNY, so I think the prices remains the same).

Now, go take a break and have some coffee!

There are many clinics in Batu Pahat. Many have been around for a long long time. I am sure each of you have your favourite clinics that you go to. For our family, it is Dr Tan from Klinik Rakyat (5-2, Jln Zabedah, Tel: +607 431 6551) and Dr Ng from Klinik Malaysia (28, Jln Rahmat, Tel: +607 434 1064).

Recently, one reader went to this new 24 hour clinic in Batu Pahat and commented that is nice and impressive. Another went to the doctor and said that he should put some pictures here for the rest to see.

Dr Tiang WY sent me some pictures of his beautiful clinic. It looks different ya? You might have mistaken it for a spa centre!

So, if you happen to visit Batu Pahat and happen to need a doctor, this 24 hour clinic might be what you need!

Today’s post is contributed by Han Boon Siew. He has sent these photos of Tong Seng Bakery.
(Thanks!)

The photos attached are one of the Famous Bakery (Tong Seng Bakery) at “Jalan Shabandar”. It was open by a Hainanese about 70 years ago. Currently the bakery is still going strong as the fourth Generation is continuing the business.

Basically their breads are very popular as all the breads are freshly baked everyday. Moreover one of their specialties is the “Kaya” whereby lots of foreigner e.g, Japan, Taiwan… come to buy the whole lot and send it back to their countries.

This magazine stall has been there for the longest time. It is one of the places where you can get all kinds of magazines.

Sorry, I have no other details about it. I should have stopped and interviewed the owner to ask about its history.

Shell Petrol Station at corner of Jalan Soga / Jalan Sultanah.

I always wondered…. is this the smallest petrol kiosk in BP? Or the one at Jalan Kluang opp the roundabout?
