This is the famous BP Wantan Noodles. OK, I finally took pictures of it, and here it is. The name of the shop is Chop See Kee, but everyone calls it Ah See Wantan Mee. The shop is located at Jalan Jenang.
If you are coming back to BP, or visiting BP, remember to pop by this legendary shop. haha… Hmmm..
Here’s how the shop looks from outside. (Yes, this silly boy was standing in the middle of the road, risked his life to take this pic)

The ‘signboard’ of the shop. It looks very antique, doesn’t it?

Then the moment you walk in, other than tables and chairs, you see this big imposing Wealth / Fu sign.

You order the food, and if you order a bowl of soup with lots of wantan, it will most probably arrive first and here it is.
The famed noodles! This is the ‘big’ portion. Maybe we should just have ordered a small one. We have been going around eating and eating…

How much does it cost? This sign tells it all. This is as of December 2006. I guess they should not change much, even if you visit in 2007, which is in 2 days time. RM3.20 / SGD1.40 / GBP 0.45 / USD 0.85 for a large size.

If you order the Small portion, you get 1 ring of noodles, the Large portions gives you 1.5 rings of noodles.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!

Someone in the previous post asked if this school is still around, yes it is!
Here’s how it looks like, this building has been around since March / April 1995.

Anyone here from this school? You might want to contribute facts about this school. I found from two websites details about this school. How interesting, I always thought that Ai Chun was a girls school, but originally, it was a boys school! It is published in Malay, but here’s my summary and translation.
Ai Chun School was the original name of the school and it was established in July 1942. In 1945, the Girls Division was set up. The girls classes was at an atap house in Jalan Rahmat. It is beside the Chinese Chamber of Commerce building now. It had around 30 students. The boys classes on the other hand was at an atap house in Jalan Soga, beside the Hindu Temple.
In 1926, the students population grew rapidly so on the 29 March 1927, it was decided that the school be separated into 2 single gender schools. Ai Chun Girls School was formed and Ms Tan Nai Wei was the headmistress. Since then, the school has moved twice and was closed during the Japanese Occupation period.
In 1932, due to limited and scarce resources because of the world economic depression, Ai Chun School was merged with Cheng Siu School. The Girls School was held in a shop in front of the Post Office. Cheng Siu School was held in the present Ai Chun School. Both the schools were under the care of the same School Board of Management.
During the 2nd World War, both schools were stopped because the school buildings and school resources had been destroyed.
After the war, the School Board of Management restarted Ai Chun School at the present location. It has around 800 students with 9 classrooms. It was obvoius that the school was becoming too small. In 1952, the 9 classrooms was demolished and replaced with 24 classrooms, 1 hall and a headmaster’s office.
By 1963, the school had around 1300 students and with advice from the Education Ministry, the school was split into 2 schools. Ai Chun School (1) and Ai Chun Girls School (2) was established on 13 April 1963.
Ai Chun Girls School (2) was established with 476 students, 12 classrooms and 15 teachers. Classes were held in the afternoon. The headmistress was Ms Ong Chin Che.

Another historic building in Batu Pahat. The Batu Pahat Post Office has the year 1930 moulded into the walls.

The Post Office is air-conditioned now. Remember how it was last time?
Are you all Stamp Collectors or Philatelic obsessed? Anyone has postmarkings of things sent to or from Batu Pahat in 1930s or earlier? It would be see them

Hmm… everyone who is living in Johor and Singapore will know that it has been raining non stop. Monday and Tuesday, it was raining and raining and raining. Newspaper like The Star, New Straits Times, Singapore’s Straits Times all reported flooding in both Singapore and Johor.
Called mum to ask, “BP got flood or not”. Nothing serious. TIGS where desk and chairs float when there’s flooding, did not see any of the flooding stuff!
The big huge drains that snake around Batu Pahat and the underground huge drain below Jalan Sultanah works? Haha…
Bernama news reported that Parit Raja part of Batu Pahat is affected. I guess the town survived!
