Pasar Besar
The last time I got back to BP, I saw that the Pasar Besar is painted. (What tickled me about the colour is that it looks like the High School colour! haha..)
I asked a PakCik who operates a stall nearby and he said, a few weeks before Raya, it was repainted. It now looks so clean and presentable. The fence is also clean now.

Buildings nowdays do not use this kind of bricks anymore ya?

Let me zoom in the sign board. Wonder if anyone who goes there all the time realise that it is there!

I wonder if the old clock will be back there. I guess not anytime. There was talk about this market being moved away to somewhere over the Peserai Bridge. Wonder if that is still true. Hmm a digital thermometer that tells the time would not be too bad an idea right?

This is the scene of the stalls outside the main market building. I think some of these things are really cheap. Selonggok RM1.

I always wonder why BP City Council always like to paint buildings in these type of weird colours?? I don’t know how to name/ describe/ categorize this type of color scheme. But it doesnt seem to be good taste to me.
At the bottom of the signboard, it reads “Majlis Daerah Batu Pahat Barat”, it should be Majlis Perbandaran right?
It used to be Perbandaran (town) until BP got upgraded to a Municipal, so the bandar word doesnt seem to really apply to the town anymore.
BeePee turning yellow? Guess it’s in response to that battlecry ‘Are you “Yellow-ed?”‘……
For me, as long as they paint it and it looks clean, I am ok with it. i remember the fence has horrible green algae on it most of the time. Yucks!
Now at least, it is clean.
What a nostalgia. I still can remember I always followed my uncle selling his “ang gu kueh” and other nyonya kueh there in late 60′s.
This pasar got very weird smell and dirty and wet on floor…never been clean and also it already hopeless to clean cuz the Town Council has never resurface the wet floor for a very long time..Longkang blockage is the main issue!!!
After the Hyper market is open in BP less ppl visit this pasar already..
Another thing i wonder is the clock tower still working???
no clock, only got tower! haha…
Comments on the last pic :
Picture featuring “selonggok = RM1″ the people selling those cheap vegetables, occupied the place where it was for the public to have a seat and rest. Cheap but unethical…
nowadays no one sit in the market, sun getting too hot (even in the morning). people just buy then zip back home.
haha.. you are wrong.. my mum like to go to the market early in the morning.. and i can say that most of the seats are fully occupied (majority by foreign workers, which is true!), Perhaps, during afternoon time when it is hot, people do not sit there anymore due to the heat.
Almost everytime I visited the market with my mum, I will buy the follows:
1. the carrot cake (cai tao kue), right after the entrance turn right
2. buns, located just right after the entrance
3. newspaper, next to the stall selling buns
4. some curry puff, located right in front of the newspaper stall
You left out the you char kueh (outside the 4D shop).
When I was small, it used to have an Indian stall selling Putu Mayam opposite the Pasar main entrance. My father sure bought1 pack with ‘tambah gula’ for me whenever I followed him to pasar. Sekarang putu mayam sudah tak ade kat sana, tak tau pindah mana …
There is one indian guy who berulang-alik between taman soga perdana and kampung merdeka in the morning selling putu mayam. Have to get hold of the man again.
Me stay in BP Garden mah… Looks like have to ronda at Kg Merdeka to catch him lor…
this depends on luck cause its been sometime since i saw him
what is putu mayam?
Putu Mayam is like mee hoon served with grind coconut and gula melaka. The mee hoon is either white or green. Green color same ingredient as what they used to make the cendol noodles. (Sample pic: http://www.foodmalaysia.net/uploads/images/putumayam.jpg)
Not to be mistaken for putu piring which is yellow color.
If the picture in the link shown is putu mayam, then the pasar besar got one indian guy selling this! From the entrance, turn right and his stall (i think is on top of a bicycle or motorcycle or something) is located almost at the end…
Lulu, Kee solved your putu mayam cravings.
eat it when still hot.. yummy
