Swee Bee Hainanese Chicken Rice

NON-HALAL FOOD POST.

Probably one of the most well known Chicken Rice stall in Batu Pahat. It was not there when I was a little kid. But it appeared most probably in the 1990s and has become famous. Not only people from Batu Pahat frequent this place, outstation visitors seems to throng this place too.

This was taken last month when I had lunch with Dad and Mum.
We had the chicken feet salad. Quite an appetizing starter to whet your appetite.

Some people I know get absolutely disgusted with the thought of eating chicken feet skin. But they miss out on tasting one of the delicacies that is so readily available. Haven’t they heard that the secret to beautiful skin is in eating chicken feet filled with gelatin?

The fried tofu is also quite delicious. The tofu is only fried when you order it, so it arrives ‘tongue scorching’. So be careful not to put the whole thing in your mouth immediately. The peanut topping and the sweet and sourish sauce, together with the shredded vegetables makes it quite delightful.

“The Chicken”.  The day that we had it, the chicken was good. Firm and yet tender. Bean sprouts filled the bottom of the chicken to make it look more substantial. :-)

Which is your favourite chicken rice stall in Batu Pahat? There are so many all of them are equally good. I like the one at the glutton square behind the Jalan Rugayah The Store too.

The building itself looks very antique with it’s unique way of painting. So unlucky I can’t have it because of non-halal. Batu Chinese food is also well known in Singapore. I went there a few days ago and my Chinese friends told me they like Batu Makan Shop taste.

  3. i like how you take those food photos. absolutely mouth-watering looking. but the last time i tried swee bee, the chicken was all yellow fat and little meat. bluerk.

What I heard about this restaurant is that the chicken rice is very nice, the chicken is just so-so. I still prefer the chicken rice shop at Tmn Bukit Pasir (non-halal) or the one at Jeng Kwan (Kwong Ah) – halal version.

  5. I like chicken rice at Jalan Pengkai (Tam Jiak Koi) stall. Is it that one Philip say behind Rugayah Store? Ah Piao also not bad, but I experience twice that Ah Piao’s chili sauce a bit weird taste, like turning bad.

Let me think of setting up a Malay plus Chinese Chicken Rice stall with Halal Version. My be I will sell for RM 2 a plate………

Well, the shop where this chicken rice is located used to be some run-down / budget hotel. Then, in year 2000+, it was sold / returned to the owner and renovated as this current chicken rice shop. :)

Anyway, wonder behind this shop, there used to be a Malay stall selling decent and yummy-licious Malay dishes. Anyone knows where it has shifted to, or whether it is still there?

Now that you mentioned it, yeah I remember the stall, I need to ask my parents where it shifted to. I wonder if its the same stall located behind Bomba.
